In March 2009, I was on tour around the north of Norway with renowned fiddle player Susanne Lundeng. Susanne is a really lively character and we had a great time for the three weeks I was there. The scenery in the north, above the Arctic Circle, is quite unbelievable. Huge snow covered mountains and glaciers combined with very unique light to give everything a magical atmosphere. We drove down through the Lofoten Islands, where the mountains rise for thousands of feet straight out of the sea. At times, it would take my breath away. At the end of the road we arrived at a sign for a place simply called ‘Å’. I laughed and thought to myself, “well, with scenery like that that then your villages don’t have to have impressive names!”
